Here are a few tips that we have picked up along the way.
- We recommend that all lingerie, particularly underwired garments, are hand washed, in cool water. Washing machines can shrink the fabric, misshape the wires and cause them to push through the fabric, not mention what damage a misplaced underwire can do to your washing machine.
- If you really can't spare the time to handwash, use a gentle machine wash cycle such as 'delicates', 'hand wash' or 'woollens'. Use a detergent specially designed for delicates, and in the case of swimwear, rinse and handwash in water only, as soon as possible after use. Make sure you remove all chlorine, sunscreen and other chemicals from swimwear, as it will dramatically shorten the life-span of your swimmers. It is important to close hooks and eyes on bras and wash them in a laundry bag to avoid tangling and snagging. Don't overfill the bag. Filling half way is ideal.
- It is best to dry your under-garments away from direct heat, as direct sunlight and tumble dryers can also damage and degrade the wires, fade fabric and cause your lingerie to become mis-shapen. Dry in shade, if possible, and it is best to dry it laying flat. This also helps to keep the lingerie in it's original shape.
- Wash dark and light colours separately.
